A decent hotel if you want some Mangalorian style sea food. Prices are modest, only popular affordable fish breeds like Sardines, Lady Fish, King fish, Macarel are available. Expensive varieties like Pompfret, salmon not available.

Shoaling Fish Mangalore Lunch Home. Where the food can swing from "absolutely divine" to "oh dear God, why?" faster than you can say neer dosa! Let's start with the hits, shall we? The prawns ghee roast. Now, if a dish ever deserved a standing ovation, it’s this one. It made my toes curl! In the best possible way. Absolutely the yummiest thing on the menu. It was one of those rare moments where you forget everything around you, your existential crisis, your regrets, because those prawns, mate, they make life worth living. But of course, for every high, there’s an equal and opposite low. First off, the soap dispenser. You know you're in trouble when it’s 10% soap, 90% water. Very refreshing for those of us who enjoy a side of bacteria with our meal. And then there's the server. Bless him, but handling my neer dosa with the same bare hands he uses to wipe down the tables? Not exactly the Michelin-starred experience I had in mind. I nearly applauded when he managed to juggle the dosa and my immune system in one go. And let’s not forget the Chicken Kundapura curry and squid sukka. Oh, they had potential. If only the kitchen hadn't tried to preserve them in enough salt to last through an apocalypse. To top it off, the buzzing of mosquitoes provided the perfect soundtrack to my slowly decaying optimism. This is amust visit place for anyone who woild like to taste Mangalorean cuisine. The fish meals was really good with the Disco fish fry. I also tried the Chicken Sukka, which was good too. I would like to visit again to try their other dishes.

I recently visited Shoaling Fish Mangalore Lunch Home @ BTM Layout and ordered a fish meal along with one plate of Bangada (mackerel) tawa fry. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. The Bangada fry clearly seemed to be made from completely frozen fish. You could actually feel that it wasn’t fresh. The fish was very hard while eating, not soft or juicy as expected from a proper tawa fry. It felt like it was taken straight from frozen storage and cooked without proper thawing. They served only 2 pieces in the plate, and considering the quality, it did not feel worth it. I hope the restaurant improves the freshness and preparation of their seafood because customers expect soft, fresh, and properly cooked fish — especially in a Mangalore-style lunch home.

I rarely give 5-star ratings, and there’s a reason for that. I’m a seafood lover and have tried most of the so-called “Mangalore restaurants” in BTM, HSR, and JP Nagar, but nothing really impressed me. Either the food quality was lacking or the prices were on the higher side. I couldn’t find the right balance until I visited this small place called Shoaling Fish Mangalore Lunch Home. As mentioned, it’s a small shop. If you’re looking for great ambience, you can go to the fancy Mangalore restaurants. But if you want authentic, high-quality Mangalore-style fish, chicken, and other seafood varieties, you should definitely give this place a try. Every penny spent here is worth it. The Mangalore-style fish curry meal costs just ₹80. The Banguda fish fry is ₹100, and the Disco fish fry is ₹150. They also serve an extra masala fry for ₹20, which I highly recommend. The neer dosa fish curry is ₹50 and comes with four neer dosas of good size and thickness. Finally, the buttermilk was incredibly refreshing and tasted homemade, priced at just ₹10 per glass. Do try this place—I’m sure you won’t regret it.
