Drawn by high online ratings, we visited this College Street restaurant anticipating authentic Bengali Mughlai cuisine, particularly the Chicken Chaap. Unfortunately, the experience was severely disappointing and inconsistent. Our order included Mutton Kashmira and Chicken Chaap. The Mutton Kashmira was served first, offering a brief moment of hope: the meat was tender and rested in a pleasant, if slightly sweet, yellow gravy, likely enriched with cashew paste. It was a respectable, if unexciting, dish. The real disaster arrived with the Chicken Chaap. It was served late, appearing fundamentally flawed: the oil and gravy had completely separated, resulting in an unappetizing, curdled texture—like "dahi became chhena." The chicken itself was hard, difficult to chew, and tasted distinctly sour, suggesting it was stale or poorly prepared. When we raised the issue, the waitress was unable to provide any knowledgeable defense or confirmation of the dish’s authenticity. While the head waiter offered a complimentary Firni to cover the complaint, this failed to redeem the meal. Based on the shocking quality of the signature dish, we advise extreme caution. Do not trust the ratings or experiment with new items here; it appears the kitchen is willing to experiment with the customer.
✨ **Sufi Palace Review – Premium Mughlai Experience in College Street** ✨ After exploring many legendary cabins, pice hotels, and street-side Chinese joints in College Street, I was in search of a premium Mughlai restaurant—and that’s when I came across **Sufi Palace**. The moment I stepped inside, the royal ambience struck me—air-conditioned comfort, dim lights creating a soothing vibe, and a clean, well-arranged dining space that gave a truly premium feel. As it started raining outside, the experience turned even more magical. I ordered their **Mutton Biryani (₹320)**. While I sat watching central Kolkata get drenched in the rain, the biryani arrived, filling the entire room with its rich aroma. The waiter served it in a very professional yet heartwarming manner, even asking if I was happy with the size of the mutton piece (a rare gesture in most places!). They had already given me a generous chunk, so I didn’t need an exchange. The first bite itself said everything—**this is what proper Kolkata biryani tastes like**. Tender, juicy mutton, the signature potato, and rice that was light yet packed with flavor. No overpowering dalda—just the delicate richness of pure ghee that made it easy on the tongue and stomach, letting you eat to your heart’s content. Paired with the rain’s music in the background, the meal felt absolutely soulful. 🌧️🍴 👉 Overall: A **perfect Kolkata-style premium biryani experience**—from taste and aroma to ambience and service. Truly worth visiting for anyone who loves authentic Mughlai flavors in a refined setting.
Recently, we visited Sufi Palace, a place known for its rich Mughlai flavours and cozy ambience. 📍 Sufi Palace (Just 4-5 minutes walking distance from MG Road Metro Station) We tried : 🍢 Chicken Angara Kebab (₹370/-) Served with 6 pieces of tender, juicy chicken, the kebabs were quite flavorful but leaned a bit towards the salty side. The taste reminded us slightly of Achari Tikka, with that tangy-spicy kick. 🍛 Butter Naan (₹60/-) & Cheese Naan (₹80/-) with Chicken Reshmi Butter Masala (6 pcs – ₹410/-) Both naans were super soft and fresh, pairing perfectly with the rich and creamy Chicken Reshmi Butter Masala. The chicken pieces were tender, and the gravy had a balanced buttery flavour that we truly enjoyed. 🍖 Special Mutton Biryani (₹520/-) The biryani was aromatic and well-cooked — each grain of rice perfectly done and infused with rich spices. The taste was absolutely delightful, though we wished the mutton pieces were more solid and meaty. The portion size, however, was generous enough for sharing. ✨ Overall, Sufi Palace offers great flavours and satisfying portions, making it a good spot for Mughlai food lovers near MG Road.
We had visited here 2 days ago. I had enjoyed all the foods. We tried their two types of kabab , Chicken and Mutton Biriyani and Firni (Sorry I forgot to click pictures of that). Every food items were delicious and tasty. We tried Chicken Malai Kabab and Weekend special Kabab. I think Weekend special Kabab was Best . The quantity of Both Biriyani was sufficient for one person. Also the flavor of the Biriyani was light but Mutton and Chicken pieces were quite tasty and Juicy. Firni was also very good. So my overall experience was very good 👍
The restaurant was quite good with a cozy and comfortable atmosphere, making it a pleasant place to sit and enjoy a meal. The food quality and taste were impressive, and the overall experience felt satisfying. Prices were moderately pocket-friendly, neither too cheap nor overpriced for the quality served. The mutton biryani was the highlight—rich in flavor, well-cooked, and the quantity was more than sufficient for one person. Service was prompt and the staff was courteous, which added to the overall experience. A good place to visit for a relaxed meal with good food.
