I adore this place! Such kind hospitality of this establishment represents the legacy it holds. One of the oldest sweet shops of Kolkata, Makhanlal is reputed for its authenticity in sweet preparation. I had a great conversation with the owner, Mr. Swapan Das. It was a memorable experience! I tried many sweets, but my favourite is the Aam Doi. The sweets are displayed on brass plates, which is unique to this particular shop. The location may not be visually attractive to a few visitors, but for authentic sweets, it is worth giving a try.

Tiny lil shop but very humble and friendly owner. Jolbhora melts in your mouth, aam doi is silky creamy and smooth. A must try place.
One of the oldest sweetmeat shops in Kolkata carrying history of two centuries... Set up in 1824, its quality and taste even now remains premier... This family run shop has been passed down through six generations... They still serve their sweets the proper way, on a huge, gleaming "Kashar Thala" (Bell Metal Plate)... It’s markedly distinct from peering through display cases made of steel and glass... We kind of tried almost everything that looked good... Which was most of it... They even tell you which sweets are grainy and which ones are more homogeneous in texture... Texture, sweetness, and taste, everything is worth visiting for... The people selling the sweets are just as sweet... The only thing holding this place back is the messy market it's in
